Dr. Boot discusses Vertoro’s innovative method for producing bio-oil, made from bio-mass. “Bio-oil is a black liquid, but not made from fossil fuel. Our bio-oil is made from lignin. Lignin is a part of a tree that is not utilized in the paper and pulp industry. Lignin was previously being burnt as a waste stream. We take the lignin and transform it into a crude oil and provide to various markets.”

Dr. Boot explains why businesses should consider making the switch to bio-oil. “The Petro Chemical Industry needs to become more sustainable. But we must accommodate them. They have invested millions on their infrastructure. They don’t want to tear it down and build something new. If we can give them something that is not more expensive, while being bio-based at the same time, we’re allowing them to make the transition without having to make any additional investments.”
