Diamond veteran and CEO Glitzkoin Navneet Goenka, sponsors the Divali Charity event for underprivileged children in rural India. Tied up with the development of the DiaEx diamond exchange platform, Navneet Goenka teams up with reputed NGO Aarambh to arrange the event. The location is a remote village in the Indian state of Satara named Wai.

Second generation diamond veteran Navneet Goenka, MD of Goenka Diamonds and CEO of the Glitzkoin diamond blockchain project, decided to share the Divali spirit with needy children in a remote village of Maharashtra.

“I felt that Divali was the right time to spread cheer among rural children. Wai a remote village in Sitara, was introduced to me by, friends who had interacted with well known NGO ‘Aarambh (New Bombay)’. I realized that if I had to wait until, I would have the time to personally visit the village – things would never move ahead. So I left it to the dedicated volunteers at Aarambh’.

The event coincided with one of the Divali holidays, we were fortunate to have a few hundred students from the municipal school participate in the event. The kids came in dressed in their festival clothes, smiles on their faces and eye popping at the array of gifts lined up for them.

While the major focus was on fun and feasting, the experienced volunteers from Aarambh, managed to weave in some important activities related to cleanliness and personal hygiene into the event. Excited with the combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes that were distributed to them, the children were given some useful tips related to cleanliness.

Most of the kids preferred snacks over regular meals, the menu was tailored to suit their liking. Biscuits, wafers, samosas and Frooti their favorite drink were distributed to all the children present at the event. Since the little ones had their eyes on the gifts spread around the hall, right from the moment that they entered the room, the Aarambh team quickly began the distribution activity.

Explaining the choice of gifts, Navneet Goenka had something interesting to say, ‘… education was top priority in my family, my father has been in the diamond business for at least 50 years now. All through our childhood he kept telling us, that our education was important. While it was quite apparent that, I would join the diamond business once I was big enough – I was never allowed to take my education lightly…’

It is therefore no surprise that the Glitzkoin CEO, preferred to gift items that were related to school and study to the kids. Pencil boxes, lunch boxes, notebooks and of course, the in-trend backups were all there for the excited kids. The young toddlers clutched their precious gifts as they, made their way home. They had a great time and a Divali that they would remember for years to come.

Talking about his future plans for such charity events, Navneet quickly narrated his opinion. In the words of the diamond veteran, ‘… these activities have to go on, my hope is that other businesses will also be motivated to do their part. I am at present tied up with the Glitzkoin project, the development of the DiaEx diamond trading platform is almost complete … but, this will not reduce my keenness to help the lesser fortunate members of our society. Aarambh has done a great job on this Divali event, we will be working on more such projects together…’
